Instagram (IG) and Facebook (FB) Showing the Same Values

You might encounter a situation where the extracted data for both your Facebook (FB) and Instagram (IG) sources show identical values. This occurs because both platforms share the same data extraction endpoint, which is common for older client configurations. As a result, without additional steps to differentiate them, your data from both platforms may appear the same.

How to Fix: (screenshot sensitive data to be blurred)

1. Add the “Publisher Platform” Breakdown: To resolve this, you need to add the “Publisher Platform” option in your breakdown settings (as shown in the atached screenshot). This will introduce a new field to separate the data from Facebook and Instagram, allowing the platforms to be distinguished correctly!

2. Adjust the Setup Based on Your Data Destination:

*** For Google BigQuery (GBQ) or Data Warehouse Users:**
If you’re using Google BigQuery or any data warehouse, you can apply the “Publisher Platform” field as a filter in your queries. This allows you to manage both FB and IG data from a single source and still distinguish between the two platforms.

*** For Dashboard Users:**
If you’re using a dashboard (e.g., for reporting), you’ll need to create separate sources for Instagram and Facebook. This ensures that each platform is shown independently in your dashboard.

  1. Test the Changes: After making the necessary adjustments, manually run your source to verify that the data for Facebook and Instagram is now distinct. If the data still appears the same, double-check the breakdown configuration and try again.

Final step:
Once the “Publisher Platform” breakdown is in place and tested, your data from Facebook and Instagram should be properly differentiated. If you need further help, feel free to reach out for assistance
